Wednesday of Holy Week will be the day this year that Archbishop J. Michael Miller, CSB, will celebrate the Chrism Mass with all the priests of the archdiocese, and he's inviting the lay faithful to attend. The Mass shows the unity of the priests with their bishop.
"I am looking forward to celebrating the Mass of Chrism, which manifests the communion of priests of the Archdiocese of Vancouver," said Archbishop Miller. "This concelebrated Mass expresses the sacramental unity of the ministerial priesthood, which shares in the one priesthood of Christ.
During the Chrism Mass the bishop blesses three oils to be used for sacraments and for consecrating churches and sacred vessels.
The Chrism Mass will begin at 5 p.m. April 4 in Holy Rosary Cathedral.
The archbishop hopes the faithful of the archdiocese will attend the Mass, which "enables them to appreciate more profoundly the significance of the local church," which he noted is entrusted to the pastoral care of the archbishop united with his brother priests.
