Archbishop Rome-bound
Archbishop J. Michael Miller, CSB, has been invited to Rome to
receive the pallium, an archbishop's symbol of authority over an
ecclesiastical province. The pallium also symbolizes collegiality
and unity among the world's archbishops and with the Pope.
Archbishop Miller will receive the vestment on the
Feast of Saints Peter and Paul, June 29, along with other
archbishops from around the globe who have taken up their
appointments as archbishops since the last feast of those saints.
Made of white wool, the pallium is a circular vestment that fits
around the neck. It has a pendant at the front and one at the back
and is adorned with six black crosses, four on the neck and one on
each pendant.
The pallium will be conferred on June 29 in St. Peter's Basilica
during the Mass offered by Pope Benedict XVI.
