Archbishop Michael Miller offers the Mass on Jan. 2, the day
of his succession as Archbishop of Vancouver, in the
building at 150 Robson St. which houses the offices of the
archdiocese. Archbishop Emeritus Raymond Roussin
concelebrates, with five priests who work in the building:
Msgr. Pedro Lopez-Gallo (left), Msgr. Stephen Jensen, Father
Joseph Le, Msgr. Mark Hagemoen, and Father Bruce McAllister. |
Since Archbishop J. Michael Miller, CSB, served as
coadjutor archbishop under former Archbishop Raymond Roussin, SM,
there is a seamless transition of pastoral care: the position of
coadjutor carries an automatic right of succession.
There is no need, therefore, for a ceremonial installation of the
new archbishop; however, to mark this important transition, the
Vancouver archdiocese is arranging not only the Jan. 25 Mass but
also two other events.
On Feb. 5 it will host a priests' luncheon to welcome the incoming
archbishop at St. Mary's Church in Vancouver. More details will be
forthcoming soon, said Vice-Chancellor Barbara Dowding.
To give thanks to God for the episcopacy of Archbishop Emeritus
Roussin and to pay tribute to his good works in the archdiocese, a
Mass and dinner reception is being planned for Feb. 15 at 5 p.m. at
St. Francis Xavier Parish in Vancouver. Tickets for the dinner are
expected to be in the $30 range. More details of this event will be
announced soon, said Dowding.
