So many women left damaged

By Archbishop Raymond Roussin, SM

The Order of Canada's motto is Desiderantes Meliorem Patriam (They desire a Better Country).

Canada can hardly be described as a better country as a result of the unrestricted access to abortion Henry Morgentaler has brought about.

More than a million lives have been ended under Canada's liberalized abortion state. It is those tiny unborn children who have paid the price for Morgentaler's award.

The irony is that the Order of Canada is intended to recognize a lifetime of outstanding achievement. Morgentaler's outstanding achievement is an abortion toll of more than 100,000 Canadians a year.

While Morgentaler is being honoured for his "commitment to increased health-care options for women," the health-care option that he is best known for continues to leave women from coast to coast emotionally, physically, and spiritually damaged.

The Church, along with other Christian and non-Christian pro-life people, works with these vulnerable women to offer them compassion and to bring them healing after the abortion industry has taken advantage of them.

It is an insult to these women and their families to see the man responsible for their wounds honoured with the Order of Canada.

For the majority of Canadians who polls indicate are troubled by the lack of any abortion law in Canada, this decision is appalling. I invite everyone who is troubled by this award to contact the Governor-General's office to express their disappointment.
